With „Strike of the axe" the albums breaks loose and quickly it becomes clear: this beast casts it's spell on you! Until song four „Full metal jacket" the Canadians do not give us a pause for breath, the good songs are lined up like stars in the sky! We are roused by „Out of time"before the epic titletrack finishes the album. „War is hell" stylistically continues onwards from the first album. That means a strong rooting in the classic and traditional heavy metal sounds of the 80's accompanied by influences from power, thrash, and melodic heavy metal. The title of the album „War is hell" was chosen as it is the album's most epic track with lyrics about events that hold a deep meaning to anyone from the island of Newfoundland, or to anyone that despises war and its futility (Google the Battle of Beaumont Hamel: July 1, 1916 if you are interested in history). Other lyrical themes on the album deal with our inner war and touch upon themes of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and mental health.
