Detailed Description
Hisko Detria is an experimental rock band, taking its name from a certain phenomenon which combines light and optical technology in a perfect manner. The current incarnation of Hisko Detria began somewhere around 2010 in Turku, Finland. Initially the band was meant to be a ruthless Neu!-pastiche, but pretty soon found themselves on a path of their own. Besides krautrock and kosmische musik the band draws inspiration from various elements such as crust punk, grindcore, science fiction, Karlheinz Stockhausen and cats. The result is a style of music that has been described as familiar and cozy, but at the same time unpredictable - like drinking spiked tea with your dear old meemaw. Their 2012 demo "Static Raw Power Kraut" received surprisingly positive reactions and after being played on the legendary WFMU radio and curated by them at the Free Music Archive, the band gained some global micro-reputation among a handful of music geeks who enjoy new and obscure stuff. Comments from worldwide audiences have included "I feel like driving a car", "hipster-droning", "they look funny", "sexy stuff, makes me wanna have sex", "the sound is really good but nothing happens". As a result of slow and unsteady working pace Hisko Detria have rarely played live or released new music. After their first appearances the band waited until the iron was freezing cold and no one would ask for a full length release anymore. Their debut album "Mal du Siecle (eli puheenjohtaja Schreberilla on auringonsateita perseessaan)" was slowly put together over the years, torn apart and then pieced together again. The final version was introduced to a live audience in a foreign land and after a positive reception it was finally recorded in 2016. "Mal du Siecle" tells a story of paranoia and twisted nostalgia with inspiration taken from Phillip K. Dick and Neon Genesis Evangelion. It is a four-track journey that feels like having roofies slipped in your chocolate milk, waking up in the middle of a desert with lizards, being abducted to a Bizarro World prom dance and finally falling asleep to a Sumerian lullaby. Musically the album escapes any simple genre definitions, combining various elements and thus creating an uncanny listening experience instead. It operates somewhere in the vague definitions of experimental-kraut-post rock, poor man's free jazz, and whatever - you name it!
