GABRIEL LEJEUNE is the lead guitarist / songwriter for Louisiana's VOID, who have been making big waves in the underground since the release of last year's Forbidden Morals via SHADOW KINGDOM. While many have thrilled to the band's prodigious chops, none have yet to hear LEJEUNE on his own. Enter Pyramids, his first instrumental solo album.

Indeed, VOID's sound has more than conspicuously nodded to tech-thrash giants like Forbidden, Toxik, and Annihilator, but what would happen if those elements were indulged and without vocals? LEJEUNE answers that, and then some, with Pyramids. It's tempting to reference early Yngwie Malmsteen and the heyday of Shrapnel Records here - which is to say, when "shredder metal" became a viable subgenre of heavy metal, but LEJEUNE brings a far broader emotional and textural palette to his solo debut along with his own share of ferocious licks. The song structures are labyrinthine, with tempo shifts and dynamic excursions around every corner, but his lead work here is simply off the charts; one simply does not notice the lack of nor miss vocals when such leads are so expressive.
